Questions, answered plainly.

The 15 questions that come up most, including cost and what happens if the answer is no. If something here is not covered, call and ask.

The offer

What does up to $500,000 in spendable funds actually mean?

Spendable funds means cash that lands in the business bank account and is free to spend at the owner's discretion, net of fees. That is different from an approved credit limit and different from a facility that pays a vendor directly. The $500,000 figure is a ceiling for companies that qualify, not a quote and not an approval.

How can $500,000 come out of a business doing $1,000,000?

Not from one unsecured product. It comes from collateral or from a combination: an asset backed facility priced off equipment or receivables, a receivables facility, and where it fits an unsecured piece sized off deposits.

What disqualifies a business?

Unresolved CRA arrears with no payment arrangement, two or more merchant advances already outstanding, repeated NSF activity in recent bank statements, a request with no stated use of funds, and certain industries most Canadian lenders will not participate in.

My revenue is below $1,000,000. Is there anything for me?

Yes, at a smaller range. The $1,000,000 floor applies to the $500,000 path specifically. We advise on requests from about $100,000 upward.

Working with us

Are you a lender?

No. Trust Financials Limited is a commercial finance advisory firm. We do not originate, underwrite or fund credit. We structure the request, prepare the file and take it to lenders whose mandate fits, and the lender makes their own decision.

What size of deal do you work on?

Requests from about $100,000 to $10 million. Below that range the economics do not work for either side, and we will say so rather than take the file.

What happens on the first call?

Twenty minutes. You describe the amount, the purpose, the timing and what is already in place. We tell you what looks realistic and what would have to change. Nothing is sent anywhere.

What if the deal is not fundable?

You hear it in the first week, with the reason and what would have to change. An early no costs you nothing. A late no costs you a quarter.

Do you work outside Ontario?

Yes, across Canada. Most of the work is in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, and most of our lender contacts are Ontario based.

Money and cost

What do you charge?

One fee, on a completed financing, and nothing before that. No retainer, no application fee, no charge for the first read, and no charge at all if the structure will not work. The number is in the engagement letter before any work starts, so you see it while you can still walk away, and it does not change once a lender comes back with terms.

What rate will I get?

That is the lender's decision and it depends on the instrument, the security, the sector and the file. Anyone quoting a rate before reading your statements is guessing.

How long does financing take?

Asset backed pieces can fund in days once an appraisal is done. Bank facilities run four to eight weeks. Commercial property, which is arranged by the licensed brokerage we refer it to rather than by us, runs six to sixteen. A combined structure moves at the pace of its slowest part.

Privacy and process

Will you contact my bank without telling me?

No. Not one lender is approached until you have approved the list in writing.

What happens to my documents?

They are stored against your file in the client portal, accessible to you and to the person handling your file. We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not send it to a lender you have not approved. The full position is in the privacy policy.

Do you arrange mortgages?

Not directly. Arranging financing secured by real property in Ontario requires a licence under the Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act. We prepare the file and refer it to a licensed brokerage, and we tell you who before anything moves.

Bring the deal before a lender forms an opinion.

Four questions to start, and no email until you have the answer.

No lender hears your name until you say so.

A request emailed to twenty lenders leaves twenty records. The next one to see it reads the declines before they read the deal, and a file that looks shopped is priced as one. So the list is built with you, approved by you in writing, and nothing leaves this office before that.
