Retail and e-commerce
Retail buys the season before it sells the season. Online, the same problem arrives with a different name: inventory and advertising spend land weeks before the platform settles.
How the balance sheet reads.
Deposit consistency in the bank statements matters more here than the annual figure, because the seasonality is legible.
Leasehold improvements finance well under a term structure, including through the Canada Small Business Financing Program.
Platform settlement histories are usable evidence. Bring the exports.
What usually does the work here.
WHERE IT GETS DIFFICULT
- Merchant advances are common in this sector and they are the fastest way to lose access to bank credit.
- A brand with no owned assets has little to secure, which pushes pricing.
- Working capital and lines of credit$50,000 to $2,000,000 Revolving credit sized against deposits, receivables and inventory, for the gap between paying suppliers and getting paid.
- Term loans$100,000 to $5,000,000 and above A fixed sum advanced at closing and repaid over a set schedule, for growth, refinancing or a single large investment.
- Private and alternative lending$100,000 to $5,000,000 Non bank capital for a deal that is time sensitive, asset backed, or does not fit a bank credit box, priced accordingly.
A retail and e-commerce file, read properly.
Tell us the amount and the purpose, and we will say what is realistic in this sector.
No lender hears your name until you say so.
A request emailed to twenty lenders leaves twenty records. The next one to see it reads the declines before they read the deal, and a file that looks shopped is priced as one. So the list is built with you, approved by you in writing, and nothing leaves this office before that.
